Got some VIP tickets from my “little” sister to attend the Fed Cup this week-end... Guess what: competition is... Belgium vs. Canada! Let’s go Belgium!
Even bought a flag for the occasion... Cannot miss the opportunity to see Conor wearing the Belgian flag...
Saw two games this PM, and score is 1-1 so far... games were not incredibly spectacular, but I enjoyed the afternoon with Conor and Seb.

To the Queen’s 2010 MBA Class:
Welcome to the Queen’s MBA program! We are delighted that you are going to be part of our MBA community, and we are looking forward to seeing you in a few weeks. This is the last week of classes for MBA 2009, so for most students this is a bitter-sweet experience. We held our graduation dinner on Saturday. There was great food and drinks, speeches and awards. Partying, I am told, continued on very late (or perhaps I should say, early)! Soon the class members will begin packing up to move on to the next exciting chapter in their lives.
However, for you it is just the beginning of a great year! I have had the opportunity to meet many of you at MBA fairs, information sessions or interviews. I have read each your files and been a part of the discussion about you in the admissions process. So this is just an early opportunity for me to welcome each of you in advance of your arrival, and to tell you about some of the new additions to the program and general items of interest.
To begin with, this year we are offering an MBA warm-up in the week before the formal Orientation. This is three days of finance, accounting and statistics for those of you who feel the need for a head start to get some experience with these subjects. Sometimes students who do not have a quantitative background arrive at the School a bit worried about ‘numbers’. Hopefully this will allay some of the concerns. And it provides an opportunity for students from virtually any background to see what the subjects involve. These three short courses are optional but require pre-registration. We are currently at our maximum number of 78 students, so if you are still interested, get in touch with Kerri Regan and she will put you on the waiting list.
For the past couple of years we have been considering the feasibility of making a strategic increase in the size of the class from 75 to approximately 120. This year we decided to move ahead. While this still leaves us as quite a small program, it has a number of advantages. First, we will be more attractive to recruiters because there will be more of you for them to see on-campus. Second, having a larger number makes it easier for us to bring senior level speakers to the program. Third, it allows us to get more diversity in the class: more international students, more female students, and a greater range of academic and employment backgrounds. Fourth, over time it will significantly broaden our alumni base. We are delighted with the success we have had and we are especially pleased with the very high quality of the incoming class.
That said, we are very well known for the highly personalized attention our students receive from faculty and staff, so we have made only those changes that will be compatible with this. We are very much a community and we intend to retain that wonderful experience.
Among the many activities outside of the classroom in which you will have an opportunity to participate, are case and business plan competitions. In these, teams of students develop solutions to business problems and make presentations to panels of judges. Approximately three quarters of the class participated in 15 external and many internal competitions this year with outstanding results. At competitions against the leading schools in the world we had several top four results and first place finishes including; the Boston Tech Strategy Competition at Boston University, the Global Business Leadership Competition at UCLA in Los Angeles, California and the Ivey Business Plan Competition at the University of Western Ontario.
We will have a lot of fun things planned and a lot more to tell you at Orientation, but for now, Welcome and Best Wishes!

24/04/09 – A la recherche d’un permis étudiant
Et une démarche administrative de plus… et non la moindre !
24 avril 2009… Le grand départ est prévu pour dans 10 jours exactement et je ne suis toujours pas en possession de ce visa ou permis étudiant, pourtant indispensable à un séjour de plus de 6 mois au Canada… stress ? oui et non… A priori, il n’y aucune raison pour ne me refuser l’accès au pays des caribous… Cependant, le décompte a commencé, et officiellement, je suis hors délai pour l’obtention de ce précieux sésame…
Et pour une fois, je m’y étais prise à temps : dossier envoyé début avril à l’ambassade du Canada à Paris, en charge de la délivrance des visas pour la plupart des pays européens… Hélas, toujours pas de nouvelles à mon retour de vacances le lundi 20 ! Après avoir multiplié les contacts (infructueux) avec l’ambassade durant cette semaine, je me vois obligée de partir en urgence à Paris… Thalys donc à 7h13 ce vendredi matin (ouh la, j’ai plus l’habitude de me lever si tôt moi…), et léger stress à l’idée de ne pas revenir avec l’autorisation de décoller !
Je pense être en possession de tous les documents nécessaires : formulaire d’inscription, photocopie du passeport, 2 photos d’identité, preuve de disponibilité de fonds auprès d’une institution bancaire, lettre d’admission du Queen’s et bourse d’étude, frais de dossier !
Il n’y a plus qu’à croiser les doigts !
Après plus de 4 heures d'attente à l'ambassade, de multiples aller-retours aux différents guichets, une course à la banque la plus proche pour payer les frais de dossier en cash (alors que le versement avait déjà été fait 3 semaines auparavant...), une montée d'adrénaline à l'annonce de mon nom par madame l'ambassadrice, euh la dame du guichet quoi... Ouuuuf ! ça y est, je l’ai! Ce ne fut pas de tout repos...
Y a plus qu’à aller boire un pti verre sur les Champs pour fêter ça… suivi d’une visite express de la ville !

22/04/09 - Maillen champion en division 1 dames
Deuxième manche de la finale des play offs de P1 à Namur, et bien évidement, Maillen l’emporte! Super match et victoire bien méritée, félicitations à toutes ! En route pour la Régionale 2 l’année prochaine!
Fiesta jusqu’au bout de la nuit pour la plupart des filles...

Maillen champion!
Au terme d'un parcours parfait en play-off, Maillen a remporté un titre amplement mérité. Un sacre synonyme d'accession à la R2.
Il n'aura finalement fallu que quatre matches à Maillen pour s'adjuger le titre de champion. En battant Loyers pour la deuxième fois consécutive mercredi, les filles de Christian Juvent ont remporté un sacre qu'ellesn'envisageaient pourtant pas vraiment en début de saison. "Notre objectif initial était d'atteindre les play-off, rappelle le coach assessois. Malgré notre deuxième place au terme du championnat, nous ne pensions pas au titre. Avant la finale, plusieurs joueuses se demandaient encore si elles avaient vraiment envie de monter l'an prochain. Mais sur le terrain, elles ont montré qu'elles avaient à coeur d'aller au bout."
Face à Loyers, les joueuses de Christian Juvent ont à nouveau réalisé deux prestations d'excellente facture. "C'est le résultat du travail de toute une saison. Nous avons joué de manière collective en nous appuyant sur l'expérience de plusieurs joueuses qui ont déjà connu la Régionale. Nous avons également pu compter sur une très bonne organisation défensive."
Maillen aura également fait preuve de sérénité durant ces play-off. "Comme le titre n'était pas une obligation, nous avons abordé les quatre matches sans pression. Cela nous a certainement avantagés par rapport aux Loyersoises qui étaient peut-être plus tendues. Ce facteur a sans doute été déterminant."
Au-delà du titre, Christian Juvent retient principalement la bonne ambiance qui a régné au sein de l'équipe tout au long de la saison. "C'est en effet ma plus grosse satisfaction. Je craignais que l'arrivée de plusieurs joueuses n'amène des tensions au sein de l'équipe mais c'est le contraire qui s'est produit. Sans une bonne ambiance et de la solidarité, on ne serait pas allé au bout de cette aventure."
Maillen pourra donc accéder à la Régionale 2 avec ce titre en poche. Et avec une équipe qui ressemblera beaucoup au noyau actuel. "Le gros du noyau devrait rester, prévoit Christian Juvent. Le seul point d'interrogation concerne les plus jeunes qui ont moins joué cette saison. Il faudra également doubler certains postes pour pallier aux absences. Nous devrons donc nous renforcer avec ou trois nouvelles joueuses."
L'an prochaine, le premier objectif sera le maintien en R2. "Quand je vois ce que réalisent Malonne et le First en R2, je me dis qu'on est capable de se maintenir. Il faudra d'abord acquérir le rythme mais le niveau sportif sera plus intéressant que celui de la P1. Ce sera donc une bonne expérience pour les joueuses."
Un nouveau challenge que Christian Juvent relèvera avec ses joueuses. Le coach assessois a en effet d'ores et déjà confirmé sa présence sur le banc de Maillen pour la saison prochaine.

The “Queen’s MBA 2010” group on Facebook is increasingly active... Exchange of good tips around laptop, housing, recreational activities… Already friend with some of my future classmates and already a dinner planned on May 4th, one week before the start of the programme! Will definitely try to join even if I’ll be flying to Canada that day! Jet lag, here I come!
Additional info has also been published on our student portal, like the programme for the first orientation week. Seems already quite intense (from Monday to Saturday) and hectic, ranging from team building activities and dinners to first lessons around leadership!

20/04/09 - De retour de vacances
Juste de retour d’une semaine de vacances en Espagne… C’est passé beaucoup trop vite bien évidement…
Petit détour par Murcia après avoir atterri à Alicante afin de célébrer dignement les fêtes du printemps. Costumes traditionnels et Verano de Tinto à volonté, sous un soleil bien présent et quelques 25 degrés !
Départ en suite pour Valence pour quelques jours de détente et de shopping, avant de rejoindre Bogdan et ses girls à Barcelone ! Festival de sangria, tapas et autres dans des bars et restos fort sympathiques ! Balades sur les Ramblas et au Parc Guelle, visite du Musée d’Art Contemporain, mais pas beaucoup de « vraies » visites pour cause de… maladie et fainéantise !
Super vacances, trop courtes comme toujours...

Dernier jour de boulot ce vendredi 10 avril 2009...
Plutôt ravie de partir vers de nouvelles aventures... Pas encore réellement stressée, je pense que je ne réalise pas encore tout à fait ce qui m'attend... Et pourtant, dernier jour de boulot ce vendredi! Boulot, ou plutôt finalisation et clôture des derniers dossiers en cours!
Pas grand monde au bureau aujourd'hui... quelques échanges de good luck et de goodbye tout de même! Mais rendez-vous le 30 pour un vrai farewell drink!
